Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates Collection

Collection contains documents concerning the Bayview Hunters Point Naval Shipyard Superfund site remediation and cleanup acquired by the Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates in collaboration with the Democratic Socialists of America through public records requests, FOIA requests, and litigation sources.

The San Francisco Hunters Point Naval Shipyard site was home to a Naval shipyard repair facility from 1945 to 1974 and the Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory (NRDL) from 1948 to 1960. These facilities contaminated soil, dust, sediments, surface water and groundwater with toxic chemicals, heavy metals, PCBs, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and radionuclides.

Funding to support processing and preservation of this collection has been provided by the UCSF Environmental Health Initiative and the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center's Office of Community Engagement.

Materials in this collection include:

• Hunters Point Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meeting minutes and handouts 1994-2008. 30 of these documents were originally obtained from the San Francisco Public Library's Government Information Center.
• Project reports on Parcels A-G by IT Corporation, Tetra Tech and Naval Facilities Engineering Command
• Two court proceedings brought by Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice - The Petition to Revoke Tetra Tech EC, Inc.'s NRC Radiological Materials License and Petition to Revoke Tetra Tech EC, Inc.'s California Radiological Materials License with exhibits in support of the petitions.
• Communications from the Department of the Navy to various State and Local agencies
